Information from the Literacy Workshop for Parents
Our Deputy Headteacher for Achievement - Amy Ford has created a new Literacy Strategy called 'Sentence Shapes'.
There has been a trial with specific groups across the school from September to December 2015. The feedback was extremely positive so it is now being rolled out across the school in Primary, Secondary and Post 16.
All resources for this can be obtained from Reception or via your child’s English or class teacher.
Following requests from parents and carers we have set up some workshops and they will start in April. Please make a note of the dates and come and take part.
Well done to all of the parents who attended the literacy workshop on Sentence Shapes. You have made a real impact on your child's learning.
The English department has collected in homework linked to the workshop from both Primary and Secondary Departments and has seen some interesting results. Out of the pupils whose parents / carers attended the session ALL of them achieved 100% correct sentence structure in the homework. The pupils whose parents didn't attend the session only 30% achieved 100% correct sentence structure.
Here is one pupil's example. Her structure was great. She still has some work to do on tense but that will come later. The order of the sentence and her knowledge of the type of words were great. Fantastic support from home. This proves how much you as parents and carers can do to help our pupils learning. Great job. Keep it up.
If you couldn't attend the session and would like more information you can contact reception.
